From time immemorial, we played an indispensable role in shaping the world and human civilization. We were priests and physicians. We healed the mental maladies and physical ailments. We were the “Doctors” of Mind and Body.
The British system of education and the Hindu Varna stratified society proved anathema to our dignity of life and vocation. The incidental removal of hair for surgical treatment of wounds, later, destined to be an occupation of our community. The removal of hair was assigned as the hereditary duty of the community. In the society structured to suit some imperialistic forces, we were placed at the lowest place in the social ladder. The accompanying socio-cultural oppression and denial of education and political opportunities hurled our community into fathoms of pathos.
The reversal of the process began with our youth flooding into the gates of schools at the advent of the rise of many Backward Class movements. The Renaissance for the people partially impacted our community. The people benefitted by education and training, occupied covetous positions in private and government enterprises. The Wheel of Fortune began to slowly turn in our favor.
Education has proved to be the elixir for all miseries of our community. Now a majority of people look upon schools as the temples for renouncing the stigma associated with the hereditary occupation. This portal displays various avenues for the progress of our community, like SME. It provides educational carrier and counseling. It plans to provide coaching, training and scholarship. In course of time, it plans to establish educational institutions and Trusts to govern them.
We lost our glory when we lost our role as medicinal practitioners. Allopathic medicine eclipsed our prospects of life. We were moved out from the centre stage of society and egged to the edge. Siddha , Ayurvedha, Unani, Homeopathy, etc were symbols of our power.
We could regain our power only through education and employment at a mass level. The stigma of a community cannot be eschewed with the liberation of a few. It should be a joint effort. Hence, NAVSAMAJ CHARITABLE SOCIETY believes in the liberation of the whole community, for which all people should stand united. They may be different by the language they speak, culture they practice, customs the follow; but they are all one for the oppressive forces if they continue to consider Hair dressing as our hereditary occupation. It is a common cause for which all should collectively fight. The logo of NAVSAMAJ signifies the unbreakable circle formed with the people of our community of all hues. The formation of a unity is the formidable task of NAVSAMAJ. It will move the wheel of Fortune.
