NAVSAMAJ is an acronym made of the first letters of names of castes related to traditional occupations like hair styling, grooming, music and medical practices across the nation: For example, “ N”stands for Nai, Navik,Napitha; ”A” for Ambattan, Ambattam, Ambastha; “M”for Maruthuvar, Mangala, Mangali; “S” for Sen, Sain, Savitha; “ V”for Vilakkuthalai Nair, Vaidhya ,Veland, and so on. There are scores of names for the artisans of the afore-said occupations in every state, varying due to their geographical areas, cultural and linguistic usage, socio-economic reasons, and word-changes.
Therefore, NAVSAMAJ is an attempt to unite all such people breaking the barriers of states they live, language they speak, and culture they follow, customs and beliefs they hold. Unity in diversity is its motif as its logo will illustrate. A circle is infinite; its people are divergent in color and creed; but they join hands to raise voice for themselves and for others like them.
